Here at Hodge Heating & Air Conditioning of Lake Norman Inc., we want to help you stay cool this summer. Our team knows from experience just how unpleasant it can be to have to deal with a malfunctioning air conditioner, and how desperate you can get while waiting for air conditioning repair services to be completed. We make every effort to respond to your AC emergencies as quickly as possible, but we also want to help you stay cool in the meantime. In this article, we’ll go over a few strategies for how to keep your home cool while you wait for your system to be repaired.

How to Stay Cool While You Wait for Air Conditioning Repair Service

  • Block Sunlight. While you wait for air conditioning repair service, one effective way to stay cool is to block as much sunlight as possible from entering your home. The heat from the sun will raise the air temperature inside your home, so it’s best to prevent the sunlight from getting in by lowering shades, closing blinds, and shutting curtains. Once the sun goes down, you can open your windows to take advantage of the cooler evening breezes.
  • Create a Makeshift AC. Another method that we at Hodge Heating & Air Conditioning of Lake Norman Inc. have seen our clients use to stay cool while their system is down is to create a makeshift air conditioner using bowls of ice and a fan. The ice cools the air, and the fan blows that cooler air towards you–a crude method, but one that can be surprisingly effective.
  • Towel Off. The third strategy for staying cool while you wait for air conditioning repair service involves towels. Run a towel under cold water and place it on the back of your neck–cooling the big vein there will trick your brain into thinking that your whole body is cool. Then, wet a few more towels and chill them in your fridge or freezer. When the one on your neck loses its cooling effect, swap it out for a chilled one.

We at Hodge Heating & Air Conditioning of Lake Norman Inc. hope these tips help you stay cool if you ever have to deal with a busted air conditioner. If you are having problems with your cooling system, just give us a call to get our experts on the job.
